Wyndham Celebrates Midsumma

Wyndham is going all out this year to celebrate Midsumma Festival, with events for the whole family to enjoy.

Midsumma Festival, an annual celebration of queer, intersex, transsexual, transgender, bisexual, lesbian and gay culture, will be held throughout January and February.

Wyndham City will be hosting three events as part of the Melbourne-wide festival.

Wyndham City Mayor, Cr Peter Maynard, said the events would show how inclusive the Wyndham community is.

“Wyndham will play host to three events that will act as a testament to our commitment to diversity,” Cr Hooper said.

“Wyndham is a proudly diverse community and these events are such a great way to use art to celebrate our eclectic municipality.”

Wyndham City’s Arts, Culture and Heritage portfolio holder, Cr Tony Hooper, said all the events were free and open to anyone in the community to attend.

“The Wyndham Art Gallery is currently presenting the Shifting Elements and Camp Dogs exhibition, by Gurindji visual and performing artist, Kamahi Djordan King; internationally renowned for his stunning paintings and multimedia artworks,” Cr Hooper said.

“King’s alter ego, Constantina Bush, will also perform cabaret at Park Lounge – Deep West Pride Without Prejudice, in Kelly Park, Werribee.”

“Along with this exciting cabaret performance, Park Lounge will also feature music, circus performances, market stalls, food and beverages in a family friendly atmosphere.”

“Wyndham Youth Services is also hosting a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party for all young people to celebrate sexual and gender diversity. The alcohol and drug free event will feature prizes and giveaways for the best costumes.”

Shifting Elements and Camp Dogs will be held at the Wyndham Art Gallery, 177 Watton St, Werribee, until Sunday 18th March, 2018. An artist in conversation featuring Kamahi Djordon King and local writer and spoken word artist, Pauline Vetuna, will also be held on Thursday 1st February, 2018 from 5.30 to 7.30pm.
